Long Prairie and Stone Bridge Trails

Join us for a more adventurous ride on the Long Prairie Trail and the Stone Bridge Trail from Capron to Roscoe, IL on Saturday, May 28. The ride is 18 miles one-way on a mostly limestone trail. (approximately 36 miles round trip.) There is a mixture of sun and shade. It is a relatively flat rail trail passing through a couple small towns. I plan to stop for lunch in Roscoe before returning. You are welcome to return sooner as your time and energy permit, since this is a simple out and back ride. We'll cross a stone railroad bridge dating from the 1880's. We pass a park commemorating a farmstead dating to the 1850's. The former farmstead park is about halfway with a vault toilet so expect an extended stop there to catch our breath and regroup.

The trail is in pretty good shape overall. There are a few short stretches where older asphalt is a little bumpy, and a couple short stretches of limestone trail which has started to grow vegetation down the middle.

There are no restrooms available where we start the ride. Restrooms are available at Casey's just before you enter Capron. Or there is a portable toilet in Poplar Grove about 5 miles down the trail. Capron is just over an hour from Schaumburg.

Please arrive 15 minutes early to prepare.

Reminders: Helmets are expected safety gear. Bikes are expected to be in good condition. Guests are welcome to join us for one ride but are expected to join the club for additional rides (insurance requirements). Fountains may be disabled so bring enough water.

Starting Location:
