Ozaukee Trail to Port Washington, WI
September 20, 2014
9:30 AM

Join us on Saturday, September 20 for a bike ride from Mequon to Port Washington, Wisconsin on the Ozaukee Interurban Bicycle Trail. We will be stopping at the Dockside Grill on the scenic shoreline of Lake Michigan in Port Washington for lunch. (Or bring a lunch.) There will probably be an opportunity for an ice cream stop on the return. The ride is about 16 miles one-way (32 miles round trip). We’ll ride at a 10-12 mph (casual speed) with no one left behind.

This is an easy to cycle, scenic, well-marked, paved trail/route over an old trolley line. The route is not totally flat. There are a few small hills. (On the return we have to ride up from Lake Michigan for a bit.) The trail passes through the towns of Cedarburg and Grafton where there are some on-road segments. We will be cycling through farmland on tree-lined trails, crossing rivers on historic bridges, cycling over the expressway and ending up in the Port Washington Marina on the shore of Lake Michigan. We'll see the new Coal Dock Park and Beach on the south side of town. This is a favorite ride of many club members.

Our bike ride starts in the parking lot of the Logemann Community Center (6100 W. Mequon Road) in Mequon, WI. located at the intersection of Cedarburg and Mequon Roads. There should be restrooms available either at the Logemann Center or at one of the town facilities (park, library) behind the Center. We’ll start at 9:30 AM. (That way we’ll be sure to arrive at the deli before the noon rush.)

This is a county/village trail. There are no fees to ride the Ozaukee Interurban Trail. (There is a trail fee to ride other state trails in Wisconsin.)

Travel times can be hard to predict, but this is normally about a little over a two hour drive from Schaumburg. It is about a 110-mile drive. Please plan to arrive 15 minutes early to sign in and prepare.
