On Saturday, May 9, the city of Elgin will be celebrating the opening of Bike Route 1. This bike route is the westerly 2.5 miles of a route that will one day connect between Elgin (Fox River Trail) and Evanston (Green Bay Road Trail). There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony held at 10:30 am, at Ann-Douglas Park and Butterfly Gardens. The park is a couple of blocks East of Gail Borden Public Library; we'll stop there to show support for the new bike infrastructure. Afterwards we'll ride back to the Fox River Trail and ride towards Crystal Lake...or perhaps to Algonquin. We'll see what the majority wants to do. Round trip to Crystal Lake will be about 30 miles. Roundtrip to Algonquin will be about 20 miles. The trail is paved all the way.
