Join me for a ride on the Great Western Trail from St.Charles to Sycamore and return. This is a very flat, straight trail. It was an old railroad line. It is mostly open farmland. Very peaceful. Most of the trail is limestone, but there is a small part of it that is paved. There aren't bathrooms on the trail, but there are at the starting location. Make sure you have enough water as there isn't anywhere to get water once we are on the trail either. Once we get to Sycamore we will get lunch at the Forge Restaurant which I'm told is at the end of the trail in Sycamore. Perfect location.
Where: Creek Bend Nature Center in Leroy Oakes Forest Preserve, (37W700 Dean St., St. Charles, IL) What: Ride the Great Western Trail to Sycamore and return, with a stop for lunch in Sycamore. When: Saturday, 7/29, 9:00 a.m. (Please arrive 15 minutes early to prepare and sign in) How: Casual Speed, no one left behind.
The total distance is about 35 miles. For those who want a shorter ride it is easy to turn around at the mid point instead of going all the way to Sycamore. There is no getting lost on this trail.
Starting Location:
Directions: From Schaumburg you can take Route 59 south to North Avenue (route 64). Take Route 64 west (through St. Charles) to Randall Road (by the fair grounds). Go north on Randall Road (right turn) about 1/2 mile to Dean Street (traffic light). Go west (left) on Dean Street about a half mile to the park. Leroy Oaks will be on the north side (right). We'll meet by the nature center.
