9 am
This Saturday is the Roun Da Manure bike ride sponsored by Sharon, WI. We know it as the ice cream ride. There is a $25 fee, and that also includes a pulled pork sandwich lunch in Sharon as well as tickets for the various ice cream stops along the ride route. I plan to start from Goodland Park at 9 AM. You should probably plan to arrive about 8:30 to allow time to prepare and register.
If they use the same routes as past years, there will be your choice among three loops from Sharon. A 27 mile loop south to Capron and Poplar Grove, a 17 mile loop north to Darien, and a 24 mile loop east to Fontana and Walworth. Your choice of one, two or all three loops provides routes from 17 to over 66 miles.
I plan to do a 30 mile mash-up of the loop north to Darien and east to Fontana and Walworth. (I'm not impressed by the Long Prairie Trail between Capron and Poplar Grove, and the rest stop in Poplar Grove has not been as good since the ice cream shop there closed.) I think my route will include two ice cream shops. And there is another ice cream shop in Sharon to enjoy after the pulled pork sandwich. You're welcome to join Karen and I on our trek, or pursue your own combination of routes. (If folks really want to head to Poplar Grove I might take a route that avoids the Long Prairie Trail.)
Sharon is a town on the Illinois/Wisconsin state line just north and west of Harvard, Il. Sharon is about a 90 minute drive from the Schaumburg Clock Tower. I recommend Rt 14 (Northwest Hwy) all the way to Harvard, and then go across the state line to Wisconsin Hwy 67, turn left and go a few miles west to Sharon. As you enter Sharon, make a left turn on Park Ave. and go a couple of blocks south to Goodland Park. (Look for the water tower.) There is a ball field to your right - turn on Church St. to park in the ball field. You should be able to see friends at this point, and the registration is in the park shelter there.
On the way home you can stop at Twin Gardens Farm in Harvard for their Mirai corn.
I'll send out a weather update by 6 AM on Saturday morning.
Let me know you are coming so I don't leave without you.
